Start-Up Visa Program

Start-Up Visa Program

Immigrant entrepreneurs who are innovative and can create jobs in Canada and compete on a global scale may apply for Canada’s Start-Up Program.

To be eligible for the Start-up Visa, the following are required from the applicants:

  • A qualifying business

  • A letter of support

  • Proof of language competency

  • Settlement money

A business idea must get the support of the designated organizations listed below:

  • Venture capital funds

  • Angel investor groups

  • Business incubators

These organizations are business groups that invest in or support possible start-ups through the Start-up Visa Program. Each organization has its own criteria to assess business proposals. What they assess is the potential of the proposal and whether or not it’ll succeed.

If an organization chooses to support a business idea, it’ll give the applicant a Letter of Support which is proof that they will support that business idea. The letter of support should be included when submitting the application as proof that the venture capital fund, angel investor group, or business incubator is supporting the business.

A language test result from an approved agency should be included in the application, with the minimum CLB of 5 in English or French in the four areas:

· speaking
