Overview of Express Entry

Express Entry is not an immigration program in itself, but rather a system used by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to select candidates for immigration to Canada using the following economic immigration programs:

· Federal Skilled Worker

· Federal Skilled Trades

· Canadian Experience Class

· a portion of the Provincial Nominee Programs

Express Entry draws will either be:

· general, in which case candidates eligible for any federal economic immigration program may be selected based solely on their CRS score; or

· Program-specific, in which case the government of Canada will select candidates for just one of the federal economic immigration programs.

How are Express Entry programs selected in Canada?

They are chosen skilled workers based on the skills and ability to contribute to Canada’s economy. Express Entry manages applications for three economic immigration programs: Provinces and territories can also recruit candidates from the Express Entry pool through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) to meet local labor market needs.

How to calculate CRS score for Canadian Express Entry?

This tool will help you calculate your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score based on the answers you provide below. The CRS is a points-based system that we use to assess and score your profile and rank it in the Express Entry pool.

When will the next Express Entry draw take place?

There is no public schedule of future Express Entry draws, and so it is not possible to know for certain exactly when the next Express Entry draw will take place. However, IRCC has historically tended to conduct Express Entry draws about every two weeks, and often these draws take place on Wednesdays. However, Express Entry draws can, and do, take place on other days of the week, and sometimes there is a longer or shorter gap between one Express Entry draw and the subsequent, or previous, draw.

Summary

Canada is still issuing Express Entry invitations despite COVID-19. However, since January 2021, invitations have only been issued to candidates with provincial nominations or in the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). Canada is still processing immigration applications for Express Entry during pandemic, but processing delays should be expected.
