As of August 11, IRCC has opened the online portal to all applicants aged 18 and over who:
are applying as an individual (not as a family)
do not have a representative
are not declaring residence outside Canada as a Crown servant or with a Crown servant family member
What if I’m applying as a family?
IRCC will open the online application to families (groups) and minors under 18 years of age later this year.
I have already applied on paper, what should I do?
Please note that if an applicant has applied on paper, they should not reapply online.
The new online application is user-friendly. Applicants can now save partially completed applications and resume them at a later time, upload supporting documents and proof of payment, print a PDF and ask for confirmation of receipt.
The pandemic forced IRCC to start modernizing to allow for immigration to continue amid public health measures. Citizenship testing and Citizenship ceremonies have become online so far.
